Riverside Nature Center is located in the heart of Kerrville on the Guadalupe River at the junction of Town Creek.  This former small farm has been transformed into an urban wildlife and native plant sanctuary.  It features a unique arboretum with over 140 species of trees as well as cacti, glorious wildflowers, shrubs, native grasses, birds, insects and other animals.  Meandering walking trails lead you through the Nature Center and down to the banks of the beautiful Guadalupe River.  The bird watching blinds are great to relax and enjoy the variety of birds and other critters that happen to pass by.

If you want that little hidden "gem", be sure to check out By the River RV Park in Ingram. This jewel is a "Best Kept Secret" around here for bird watchers and nature lovers.

The "bird nerds" from Cornell have been here and saw three Golden-Cheeked Warblers on the island. Just stop by the front and for $3 you get onto some pristine private land that I know you will love. It is remote and quiet as well as very easy to get to. I suggest going to the very end and crossing to their 25-acre island for the best bird watching, and the owners are very birder friendly!

Lady Bird Johnson Municipal Park

Fredericksburg Nature Center

Lady Bird Johnson Municipal Park in Fredericksburg is a gem as well.  The Hill Country Master Naturalists completed an ADA wheelchair-accessible nature trail that is awesome!  The new bird blind on this easy trail will be a big hit as well as the butterfly garden.  But my suggestion is to cross the river on the small bridge and walk the south trail.  There is always something new along the berm island on this side.  All the trails meander through diverse habitats with many species of forbs, woody plants, and grasses along their way.  Many important species are marked with identifying signs.  There is also abundant insect and amphibian life waiting to be discovered.  There are comfortable benches placed conveniently along all of the trails for rest, reflection, and observation.  We are proud to donate WBU birdseed for this project!

This is a must see for the Hill Country!  Be sure to check out the Purple Martin gourd racks out front that are stuffed with Martins singing all day long in the summer; and be sure to leave time to check out the river trail - it is a personal favorite of our store dog "Jack"!  A visit to the Cibolo Nature Center & Farm can be just what you make it.  With a variety of different opportunities, each experience can be totally new or tried-and-true.
